The heavy chain of the toxin is particularly important for targeting the toxin to specific types of axon terminals. The toxin must get inside the axon terminals in order to cause paralysis. Following the attachment of the toxin heavy chain to proteins on the surface of axon terminals, the toxin can be taken into neurons by endocytosis. The light chain is able to cleave endocytotic vesicles and reach the cytoplasm. The light chain of the toxin has protease activity. The type A toxin proteolytically degrades the SNAP-25 protein, a type of SNARE protein. The SNAP-25 protein is required for vesicle fusion that releases neurotransmitters from the axon endings (in particular Acetylcholine).[59] Botulinum toxin specifically cleaves these SNAREs, and so prevents neuro-secretory vesicles from docking/fusing with the nerve synapse plasma membrane and releasing their neurotransmitters. Though it affects the nervous system, common nerve agent treatments (namely the injection of atropine and 2-pam-chloride) will increase mortality by enhancing botulin toxin\'s mechanism of toxicity[citation needed]. Attacks involving botulinum toxin are distinguishable from those involving nerve agent in that NBC detection equipment (such as M-8 paper or the ICAM) will not indicate a \"positive\" when a sample of the agent is tested. Furthermore, botulism symptoms develop relatively slowly, over several days compared to nerve agent effects, which can be instantaneous.

Botox works via a relaxation of mimic muscles by inhibting the signal transduction from the nerve to the muscle

A direct inyection of the toxin to the muscle belly in 2-3 different places of the same muscle usually does the work. Anatomical knowlege of the region is essential, so I recommend a physician to apply it correctly.

Botox injected in the aria between the brows blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles of the forehead. The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften.

The facial skin becomes wrinkled in time because of the movement of the underlying muscles (forehead, around the eyes, between the eyebrows, etc). Botox injections in some specific points produce a temporary paralisys of that facial muscles. As a result, the overlying skin looses gradually the wrinkles due to the descuamation that natural occurs, finally gaining a wrinkle-free area.

botox doesnot remove wrinkles but soften them ,with continue use about every 3-4 months in the beginning the wrinkle will remain very shallow but rarely desappearThere are contraindications to the use of Botox, the surgeon will clarify this . Botox blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines.Botox relaxes the muscles so they do not contract .After treatment the overlying skin remains smooth and basically almost unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion.allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.

The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botox®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that Botox is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes. For more information check out our website at www.niagaraplasticsurgery.com
