Augmentation can be achieved by moving the chin bone of the lower jaw and fixing it at a new position by a titanium mini-splint and screws. Another option is to augment the chin with an implant. In both cases, we use the access through the oral cavity.

Hi there,
regarding an implant, I want to add to my colleague´s opinion, if you decide for this possibility of a chin augmentation, you should go for a "bio material", not a silicone one. I talk about MEDPOR implants (porous ones from polyethylen)
They allow for tissue ingrowth because of its interconnecting open pore structure.
Finally, there is also another approach for a surgery, sub-mental. It avoids potential risk of a bacterial contamination from the mouth.
You can have a look at an example at my profile (a testimonial with photos)
Kind regards,
Dr. Jo Skulavik

i agree with the majority of what has been stated.
if you have malocclusion, a bite problem or you are thinking of straightening your teeth, you should include in your evalution an orthognathic evaluation by your dentist, orthodontist, maxillofacial surgeon, stomatologist or plastic surgeon. you may require advancement of your jaw and this will in turn advance your chin forward.

if do not want your entire jaw broken and repositioned, then you may benefit from the following:

-advancement genioplasty: fracturing just your chin bone and sliding it forward,
-alloplastic genioplasty: using silicone or medpor - both work very well
and one is not better than the other. it depends what your surgeon is comfortable using. you can get the same complications using either one,
-autogenous genioplasty: using fat grafting (from your own body),
-lastly there are fillers that can be used but the majority are not permanent (hyaluronic acid, radiesse, sculptra....)

the most important take home message is to consult with a plastic surgeon who is well versed in this surgery.

hope this helps

Implant or bone advance are possible. both are without visible scars . i prefer bone advance because more anatomical (natural)!

All depends of how small the chin appears to be.
It can be solve, with fillers implant, or rigid implant in a wide variety of materials.
The Smallest chins must have a complete analysis of the throat, because in some cases, an obstruction of the airway exists. Patients with loud snoring or drown like feeling while sleep, should consider a more complete analysis before a chin surgery.

it can be solved by an intraoral osteotomie of the mandible and advance of the chin other option can be a chin implant
