Implant crowns: Which is better?

I will be getting implants in the spring in Mexico and they all are trying to upsale me on the Zirconium crowns. I have heard gold is the best, but I have not seen any that offer it because of the mercury in the gold, like in fillings. SO which is better?

Why? Pros/Cons? Will they last longer? Will they hurt my opposing molars?

Is there any kind of side effects in dental implant?

There are no side effects to dental implants. Allergy to titanium is very rare. External factors such as smoking and poor oral hygiene or medical issues such as diabetes or any condition where healing is compromised can affect the integration between the implant and jaw bone. Thanks.

Zirconium crowns are very strong and resistant to fracture and esthetic. It is a good choice for a permanent crown. I am not sure how they make their gold crowns in Mexico, however gold crowns in the US do not have any mercury.
Lots of useful information for future implant patients. Thanks.

Dear All,

agree here, it's best to get more opinions and maybe different price-plans for your intended treatments. Whilst browsing, you can check GHC Clinic Prague website. The Clinic runs specialised comprehensive stomatology department with complementing orthodoncy and dental surgery care.

RE: Implant crowns: Which is better?

I have seen that you were thrown with a lot of non-scientific information. First of all don't be a victim of marketing strategy. With a good right you want to know pros/contras of the material. Zirconia is a metal free restoration material, but not the only one. It is by far not the most esthetic material. It is not the strongest material either. Another disadvantage of zirconia will be the removal of the restorations after several years of service. The cutting of zirconia is a real tragic procedure especially for the clinician. The decision of material will depend on the length of the planned restoration, as well. To my knowledge there is not any bit of mercury in gold alloys: that is not true. Gold is the best possible material in restorative dentistry. Do not forget that esthetics will also depend on the quality of dental technician and your dentist. On the other hand the placed implants must optimize the esthetics. For this reason the planning and placement of the implants must be exceptionally good, to enhance esthetic outcome.

RE: RE: Implant crowns: Which is better?

Esthetics are not that big of a deal for me. The teeth I need replaced are molars, way in the back. So if gold will last longer and not need to be replaced, then that is probably the best way to go. Will the gold implants ever have to be replaced?

I would love to go to Prague for this work, but I cant see JUST going there. We might have to do a nice vacation there too.

RE: RE: RE: Implant crowns: Which is better?

Dear Jediknight36
Every restoration has to be replaced sometime. Longlastivity does not only depend on material, but also on the technical lab work which must be very precise. In your question the term gold implant is not right: the implant is titanium; the restoration is gold (covered with ceramic).
By the way, my office is not placed in Prague, which is really a lovely city, but in Istanbul. Istanbul is also a very attractive spot to visit.
