I'd like to have a face lift but I'm afraid of subsequent scarring. Where exactly is the incision made in a classic face lift? Where are the scars visible and for how long?

In plastic surgery scars are still set to invisible or at least visible place on the body. Sewing techniques also affect the scar is almost invisible.
The incision of the classic face lift is temporal/preauricolar/mastoidea
The exposed one is the preauricolar yet it is going to heal very well in most of the cases.
The classic incision is around the front of the ear and behind the ear and scalp hairline. An experienced Cosmetic Surgeon will be able to hide these scars and ensure that they are not visible. Immediately post operatively the scars are visible however these fade with time.

in your lateral frontal hairline, alond sideburn, retrotragal, around the earlobe in the anatomical crease and retroauricular in the direction of the posterior hairline. so it is a long incision but is well hidden in anatomical landmarks if planned and executed correcly.
The procedure utilizes “very small incisions are along the hairline, inside and around the ear. The placement of the incisions are planned to be very well hidden. The deeper tissue structures are then released and re-suspended. The jaw line is usually lifted at least two or three centimeters. The procedure also aids in tightening the neck by improving the vertical bands to recapture a more graceful, smooth, swan-like neck. The skin is then closed with absorbable sutures in multiple layers, so there is no need to return for suture removal.” Patients generally experience a very quick recovery time and experience little or no pain. In fact, some people do not even require pain medication after the procedure and can often, by using a little cover-up makeup, return to work in a few days. Who is a good a candidate for this procedure? Most people seeking this type of procedure are between 45 and 75 years of age. The procedure is highly effective on both men and women who have heavy jowls, a loose neck, or aging, sagging face and neck skin. It is also best to have any medical conditions well controlled before undergoing the procedure. Quit smoking, stabilize your weight, and keep your blood pressure and blood sugar under control.
The incision lines from a facelift are well concealed within the hairline and in the natural contours of the face and ear.
A classic face lift scar starts in the side-burn, goes down along the ear, the ear lobe and is then prolongated behind the ear. The scar behind the ear is often the most disturbing. In some face lift techniques (short scar techniques) this scar is not done to prevent this retro-auricular scar. Kind regards. Dr A ZELTZER
In a Delta-Lift ( Face-Lift pioneered by Dr.H.A.Khawaja ), the scars come in the pre-auricular folds, and behind the tragus. The scars fade out, especially with treatment, after a few months. In Temporal & Retro-auricular face lifts, the scars are hidden in the temporal region, and behind the ears, respectively. In Transcutaneous Face Lift, there are no scars.
