How painful is liposuction?

(Discussion to topic Liposuction)

How painful is liposuction?

I have a low pain threshold so I am wondering how painful liposuction is and how the pain can eventually be alleviated.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

Liposuction is usually not extremely painful. There is a lot of soreness that can limit your activity. Severe pain with liposuction and fat transfer is not the norm. Seek the opinion of several board certified plastic surgeons and their experiences with the procedure. Good luck. Dr. Farella.
The amount or degree of pain experienced with the procedure will vary from person to person. Most patients, however, find it to be more of a discomfort than pain. Your doctor can prescribe pain medication to help alleviate any discomfort that you experience. Further, the newer techniques, such as UAL and the tumescent technique, tend to have the added benefits of decreased pain.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

This depends on the surgeon and equipment. We use the bodyjet system that uses water and has been promoted as lunch time lipo. The reason is that the procedure is far less invasive than older machines and leaves very little bruising and bleeding allowing you to go home within hours of surgery. The amount of work undertaken will also always play a role in the amount of pain. Pain killers will always be administered so you should feel more discomfort rather than pain.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

There can be tenderness after liposuction for few days & it is not usually extremely painful. However if your threshold is low, your surgeon can give you good pain killers to keep you comfortable in the post operative period.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

I had Breast reduction 2 half weeks ago and I had LIpo on sides breast this was more pain then any surgery I ever had the first week was terrible now not so bad bit still very tender I'm a hairstylist and I went back to work after 2 weeks part time and it was better and defiantly helped I also used ice packs which was the best for pain and swelling . So don't let anyone tell you lipo doesn't I have a good threshold but of all the surgery I have had this by far was the most pain.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

The bottom line is that liposuction can be painful, or at lease achey. If you've had it in combination with a breast reduction, it would be normal for the liposuction around the sides of the chest wall to be more uncomfortable than the breast reduction itself. I normally tell my patients in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in the UK, where I am based to expect it to feel like they've been in a boxing ring. It normally improves over the first 1-2 weeks after surgery considerably. If you are worried, go back for another check-up with your plastic surgeon. Good luck

RE: How painful is liposuction?

It depends on your threshold, this surgery cause pain with every technique, but there are sites more painfully than others like thorax or pubis, but with painkillers you can work in 3 days. Best regards

In the 21 th century used analgesics that reduce pain. It is individual and pain threshold is different for patients.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

We follow few methods to reduce pain after liposuction.
1. Infiltrate Tumuscent adequtely and wait ten to fifteen minutes before startining the procedure.
2. adequate dosage of intra operative pain killer
3. Small dose of steroid at induction
Cut down inhalational agent and exubate after completely finishing the procedure. even sticking the plaster will provoke pain stimuli.

if you follow these steps ,your patients never get pain...

RE: How painful is liposuction?

Dear,

It is not painful, but if performed under local, there is a sting, during infiltration of anesthesia. The pain is mostly controlled with oral pain killers like Dicloran, after the procedure.

With Best Wishes

Normally pain is not a problem after liposuction but in your case you should choose general anesthesia. Also some pain medication will be prescribed

Pain after liposuction

Hi!I just had a liposuction of tummy, flanks and back, 2 weeks ago, apparently everything went very well, by now I can see good results. Although I know final results are taking longer. I am kind of worried about the pain I am feeling on my left side. At the begining the pain was like a knife going deep inside me, or something burning inside. But just in some moments principally when i was making an effort or something. Now the pain is always there. I can handle it but is annoying to feel it all day. Do you think is normal?,what can i do to stop feeling that pain? Could be serious?

RE: How painful is liposuction?

Almost painless. Few hypersensitive patients tell about pain but they did't resist the procedure or pospond procedure.

Is recovery period after liposuction painful?

I've looked through some reviews (http://www.pissedconsumer.com/consumer-reviews/plastic-surgery.html ), and many patients complain about strong pains. I'm afraid of these pains.. What does recovery period depend on?

RE: How painful is liposuction?

It should not be painfull at all if general anaesthesia is combined with local. A little soreness will prevail for a few day in the aereas sucked.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

The pain in liposuction varies from technique to technique .For Instance if you opt for a vaser lipo the pain levels would be low and if you opt for a tumescent lipo then you might experience some amount of pain but still this pain can be minimized by administering the required pain killers and antibiotics for a quicker recovery. The pain levels can also vary from patient to patient as individual patient would have individual recovery time.

The pain can also be minimal if you opt for a proficient cosmetic surgeon still.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

Pain after liposuction depends upon the tolerance of the person . Most of our patient comfortable after surgery but few of them complain about pain. It can be managed by analgesics. amount of pain is also determined by how extensive liposuction has been done.

RE: How painful is liposuction?

Following my procedure that I had in June, I was in very little pain I opted for no pain meds or anti-anxiety medication. I did take blood pressure medication because it was elevated usually its normal but I was anxious. My pain threshold is pretty high he went in there with the local anesthetic and spread the fluids through out the areas that were treated.I got my abdomen love handles, hips, lower back treated it was a piece of cake for me! Now… my gf got some work done as well and she went through a-lot of discomfort to top it off she took the anxiety medication and pain med before her procedure! So honestly it varies from person to person on the pain level. Its a mind game. Best wishes to all thinking of having this procedure done. Its definetly life changing. I lost 17.6 inches in my waist line ! I couldn't of gone wrong with the specialist I chose for my procedure Staff at myshapelipo are very kind!

RE: How painful is liposuction?

It is indeed a very painful procedure. Your surgeon should have brief you with all the procedures and pain you are going to experience since it is his responsibility and also you should prepare yourself. Like they always say "No pain, no gain".
