When is it not possible to perform liposuction?

I want to undergo liposuction but I use medications for high cholesterol and I had a venous thrombosis 3 years ago. Are there any diseases or conditions that prevent someone from having liposuction?

There are no absolute contraindications but the patients should inform their surgeons about any allergies, serious medical conditions, and medications they may be taking. Smokers should stop smoking 2 weeks before surgical procedures to promote the healing process.

People showing high cholesterol levels and having had a venous thrombosis in the past are regarded as risk in germany. Before undergoing liposuction, risk patients are checked by an internist in order to check if a liposuction is a possibel option for the patient

Clients with cardiac illness, better not to do liposuction since we are having restriction to use the drug adrenalin in tumescent solution. Autoimmune disorders is one of the contraindication. Intra abdominal fat - obviously we can not correct it by liposuction.

Liposuction is an elective procedure. For that reason the recomendation is do it in healtly patients. Have had venous thrombosis is risk factor for a new trombosis. So you can undergo liposuction, but you have to know you have a greater risk, compared with general population. So NEVER hide this information to the doctor.

RE: i am diabetes semi controlled with HBA1C is 7.2, can i perform liposuction?

We have been performing liposuction for decades, ever since our colleagues Giorgio Fisher ( Italy ), and Pierre Fournier ( France ), performed the first liposuction. In Diabetics, we proceed as follows:

1. Your blood sugar must be controlled, by Insulin or oral anti-diabetics, and within normal limits.
2. Your cardiac status must be absolutely ok, and a cardiologist must certify that we can safely use adrenaline.
3. Your other blood tests, and systems must be normal.
4. Generally you have a 10% higher risk of infection than normal population, but in practice, infection is very rare in our cases, even in diabetics.
5. Your liposuction must be performed totally under local anesthesia. Complications are likely with general anesthesia.

6. Multiple small liposuctions, separated by intervals of 2 months must be performed in larger cases. In any case 2 liters of fat aspiration limit must not be exceeded per sitting.

Our diabetic patients have achieved excellent results not only in contour, but also considerable improvement in their diabetic status, with some marginal diabetics, having been cured after liposuction.

In these cases, you should always have the concept written your treating physician (endocrinologist). Diabetes must be controlled and stable. Your health in general, must be optimal and without other risk factors for surgical or anesthesiological.

First and most important, before undergoing surgery the diabetes should be well-controlled.

you are considered as high risk patient, you should get the ok from your internist to undergo surgery, liposuction might reduce your cholesterol level, but for your previous thrombosis this is very risky.
