RE: Abdominoplasty or liposuction

Liposuction is the main choise when the abdomen is not sagging for excess of anelastic skin and when there is no indication for fascial or muscolar correction. A carefull preoperative evaluation is very important.

Liposuction is useful if the Surgeon is confident that after fat removal the overlying skin and soft tissues will retract to provide a tight abdomen. Often there is significant redundant skin, soft tissue and fat such that this hangs over the pant line. Consequently liposuction alone will be ineffective at addressing the redundant tissues and tightening of the excess skin and soft tissues. A combined abdominoplasty and liposuction surgery will be required to provide the best results.

if you have fat bulk but no loose skin or only minimal loose skin you should go for liposuction. for a very loose skin as after massive weight loss tummy tuck is suitable option.

Three objectives are taken into consideration before a decision is made between lipo and abdominoplasty. Thease are skin laxity and quality, muscle tone and fat pinch between muscle and skin. Poor muscle tone with skin excess warrents a abdominoasty. Predominantly excess fat pinch between muscle and skin is an indication for lipo. In some cases both lipo and skin excision may be needed.

Liposuction offers very good results in young patients that have not been pregnant, since the skin preserves its "tightness", and it can retract after surgery. Women that have been pregnant frequently show a more lax skin that has lost some retraction capability, although it is not uncommon to do liposuction in these patients too, depending on the quality of their skin. Abdominoplasty is reserved for patients that are not planning any more pregnancies, and that have very loose skin that can be tightened by the resection of the excess of skin. Remember that it also corrects the separation of muscles in the abdominal midline that is so cummon after large pregnancies.

Tummy Tuck Enhancing your appearance with a tummy tuck A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The most common causes of this include: . Pregnancy . Aging . Significant fluctuations in weight . Heredity . Prior surgery What it won’t do: A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program. Although the results of a tummy tuck are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in your weight. For this reason, individuals who are planning substantial weight loss or women who may be considering future pregnancies may be advised to postpone a tummy tuck. Also, a tummy tuck cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be removed or somewhat improved if they are located on the areas of excess skin that will be excised, generally those treated areas below the belly button. Is it right for me? Tummy tuck surgery is a highly individualized procedure and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image. Abdominoplasty is a good option for you if: . You are physically healthy and at a stable weight . You have realistic expectations . You are a non-smoker . You are bothered by the feeling that your tummy is too large

When localized fat is the cause, abdominal contour surgery may be performed using only liposuction techniques. When excess fat is combined with loose, sagging skin and tissue, a tummy tuck removes unwanted fat, tissues and skin by excision. Abdominal muscles that have weakened or separated, a condition called diastasis, can also be corrected with an abdominoplasty.

only the surgeon can advise,in general a moderate amount of fat will require only liposuction, abdominoplasty will be the choice when it s necessary to repair the abdominal muscle and excess skin like after pregnancy or after weight reduction, at times liposuction can be combined with abdominoplasty

If you have excessive skin/pannus hanging along with fat , position of umbilicus or belly button is also displaced from its normal position , or you have divarication of your abdominal muscles and loss of normal curvature of waist or sever stretch marks then you should consider abdominoplasty /tummy tuck .If only fat is your concern and you have well toned tight skin over the fat you may consider liposuction because your skin would retract back to normal after removal of fat .If you cannot determine what is your fat type you may consult a plastic surgeon before taking the decision.
