hi i am suffering from a very scarred and sagging tummy following births of 5 children including one c-section it is making me miserable , i read an article which said that trainees often need patients to operate on is this true and if so where do i enquire, nhs funding is not available for me and i can't afford surgery

I completely understand how you feel, I have been there. But I would strongly recommend you stay clear of anyone who is offering a free tummy tuck as a trainee. Do you really want to be practised on? An abdominoplasty is massive surgery and one where the surgeon requires great skill and experience. Think about your children, is it really worth taking the risk? You could end up in a much worse position than you feel you are in now. There are risks of infection, thrombosis and can you imagine if it went wrong you would still have to live with a stomach you are not happy with.
I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope it rings some alarm bells for you.

hiam 44years old i am healthy but how ever i have r/a for 20 years i had my knees ,elbow,wrist done but the best think all thoes yrs ha ha on me i do have 2 chilrden 22 ,26 and my mate of 24 years who i loved to death .then one day my life change in 97 i had to give up working just to mush pain and stifness. my weight was always around 140lbs so i new i was getting fatter as the yrs went by ,then one day in jan 2009 my dad my father who i loved so much and was the only one i could tell i was on kemo , passe away well i thoght i was going to die it took everything from me no longer to live in dec 2009 i had surgery on my knees june 2010 my left wrist, so i was in deep deprestion for 2 1/2 years never went out with out anyone knowing i slept on couch i pushed everyone away,well little did i know i made it worst my kids thought i hated them my common law partner did he would alwasy say lets go out do this and that but no no is what i would say i wanted no one then one day i was sitthing in my fav place looking at the 4 walls crying like i did for a long time by myself .ya i can really say depertion hurts .And this is how i got out of it OPEN MY EYES wow my common law was caught cheating on me in 2010 he did for 3yrs of it wow that hurt so bad i didnt want to live any longer after being together for 25yrs every one said it was me i pussed him away i needed help well i didn't know anything anymore then my daughter 25 tryed to kill her self(she got help) me with my arthrites i felt no pain from everythingin the last few yrs of my life i just started walking and walking and thinkink blocking hte pain kept me going i lost 70 pounds i was 197 at one time , everyone says i look good but i never thought so but now i do love my self and thats why i need tummy tuck now im at 130 pounds but my sags and ass i need help cant work out because of my bones i do very light weights and walk ps i always love my husband we did get married. thanks

You should really stop looking for prices as you were looking for the best deal on computers. You are talking about your body. Believe me, correcting a tummy tuck gone wrong is harder and much more expensive than to be operated by a certified plastic surgeon or a trainee at a university hospital ALWAYS under supervision and help of a full plastic surgeon.

I completely agree with you.
Trainee surgeon is not a good and valid term. Plastic surgery training takes 6 years after graduation from medical school.Hence calling as specializing doctor or resident in plastic surgery is the true approach instead of trainee surgeon because they are not authorized surgeons.
They can only work under supervision legally.

tummy tucks performed by residents in training are always supervised by an attending or consultant plastic surgeon.
these surgeries are only performed in university affiliated plastic surgery training programs.
not all plastic surgery training programs have these resident run cosmetic clinics.
there are always fees associated even when performed by residents in training (cost of operating room, anesthetist, nurses and materials).
residents will not get paid for the surgery, and this is why it may be perceived as free.
the residents that perform these surgeries tend to be senior residents, that are deemed by their professors capable of performing these procedures.
keep in mind that we all started at some point for the first time. i can tell you that today i do not do my tummy tucks that much different from my first one.

I know exactly how you feel. When people see me in clothes they don't see what' underneath the clothes. I am a decent looking woman in clothes, but that's it. Normally I'm a highly sexual woman. I had my daughter in an emergency c-section....my Dr. Stitched be back wrong. I have a slanted stomach and it hurts if I wear jeans. He will not help correct the obvious abnormality. an abdominoplasty usually can improve the contour of the belly after pregnancy. especially if there are constant problems with the scar of the c section there are 2 benefits from the abdominoplasty procedure. prerequisite for an aesthetically pleasing abdominoplasty is some skin redundancy and limited amount of subcutaneous fat.
although an abdominoplasty is a rather big operation it is very rewarding - it can really make a "mommy makeover"!

What is going on? Why the scar, after 3 years, is still opening and draining?
Possible tests, that we reccomend:
- microbiological tests - sowing from the open wound
- ultrasonography of the wound and the whole abdomen, after computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance may be necessary
- laboratory tests - serum level of the proteins (total protein, albumine) and microelements (Ferrum, Zinc) - important impact on wound healing.

Hello, I do not know if this will get me anywhere or help or something; but, I am begging for info leading to help. Please. I am disgusted with how I look. It's nasty and horrifying. I don't know how low can be the cost of a Tummy tuck in your country, but still I want to advice you to get it properly. First of all, you have to much extra fat under your skin and I guess also in the intraabdominal area. Before you thinking of getting a surgery performed desperately; you might begin changing those facts that have you with all that extra weight.
1) Begin a proper dietary plan
2) Use compressive garment. Believe it or not, compression will help to lower down the amount of fat in the compressed area and will help your posture.
3) Follow a home based exercise program, do it step by step, try to use a neoprene garment to rise up local temperature, improving fat elimination. (this garment can't be tight at all, you need a proper blood flow to let the muscles work and use the fat as fuel).
4) Use natural fat burners as cinnamon and caffeine or buy some at your local Vitamin Shoppe / GNC store. Follow these instructions and you'll see awesome results in the first month; save your money in the mean time, perhaps in 6 months or one year you can afford your surgery and with that new body you'll get an awesome better result against the result you might get if you get your surgery right now. I disagree with Dr. Hassan you DO need a tummy tuck, liposuction will only leave you with more sagging skin, if you have stretch marks, that is the first sign that your skin is broken, never without surgery you will have a flat abdomen again, not with all the excersise in the world.
has anyone had any luck with this at all . i had a gastric bypass and have lost nearly 20 stone or 280 lbs to non uk . i have a hernia as well but the pct wont give me funding to have this done on the nhs. i havnt got the money to have this done privately and am desperate its getting me really depressed Ive made all that effort and gone through so much and im gonna fall short by a small margin due to some paper pushing bureaucrat

What may be an option for you is to contact a plastic surgeon that accepts fellowships for plastic surgeons who have finished their residency..they occasionally will offer discount on the surgery if you do it with the fellow, and they are themselves already highly trained plastic surgeons.prices in kuwait and other countries are also much better as well there are no taxes! .good luck to you..
I suggest that you appeal to your PCT. Photographs of your present condition might help. However, it is important that you highlight the physical problems that the loose skin is giving you. Unsightly appearances alone are not a sufficient reason to qualify for NHS treatment and rightly so especially in the present financial climate. It might also be helpful if your local plastic surgeon also dealt with the hernia repair as that is a functional reason for surgery which might be considered favourably by your PCT.
We would of course be willing to give you a 2nd opinion but Cambridge is a long way from Wakefield (CMM, CambridgeshireCosmeticSurgery.com).

There will not be anything as a free abdominoplasty, I guess you misunderstood the article;
1) You'll have to be operated at a hospital that you'll have to pay, you'll have to pay also for material used on your surgery and anesthesia procedure.
2) by trainees I guess you refer to a Plastic Surgery Resident, usually last year residents; that will be under the supervision of a GRADUATED, CERTIFIED Plastic Surgery Professor.
3) Also you'll have to pay for your postop medication, recovery therapy which includes compression garmets, massages (ultrasound and radiofrequency).
But for sure this way will be cheaper.
In Mexican residency programs you can get all for something between $1500-$2000 USD. and private $6000-$9000 USD.
Still there are rules to be followed: Most important one is that you need to be in a Normal Body Mass Index and try to have the less fat possible.
In the lower cost program you'll have to wait on line to get an operation date, and even that date could be canceled if there is an emergency reconstructive procedure.
If there is other kind of Ph offering you a free procedure, be careful, even if you don't want to spend that much money, will you put your body in danger to be permanently damaged?

You can have either liposuction or tummy tuck, but this decision can be made after seeing your photographs. In any case, your operation in Pakistan will cost no more than 2000 US Dollars. There are a couple of University hospitals in Germany, that provide cheap prices in fact that a trainee will do the operation but of course during the assistance of an experienced plastic surgeon. Dear Erica. I agree according to the fact that everyone feels his own pain and own problems as the worsed and life is unfair because a young mother suffers from such problems. If you step back and try to see things more objective you ll see that a lot of people suffer from other problems like carcinomas, they loose their breast and some of them even dye very hard and very young! I see this people coming into my hospital with the wish to get a microsurgical breast reconstruction or because of tumor resection or what else. So dont take it personally but for me this are the cases where you could speak of hard life!
