Quick Recovery Breast Augmentation
What is a Quick Recovery Breast Augmentation?
Quick recovery breast augmentation is a surgery method that I have developed and refined over my 20 years of my experience as a cosmetic surgeon, and have adapted these techniques to best serve my patients. This procedure uses techniques which reduce healing time, and allow the patient to enjoy a shorter recovery so they can return to normal daily activities. It is important to understand that the recovery phase of a breast enlargement has more to do with the talent and philosophy of the surgeon doing the operation than any other factor. The surgery offers many benefits over a traditional breast augmentation surgery.
How is a Quick Recovery Breast Augmentation Different?
A quick recovery breast augmentation differs from a normal breast implant surgery in many ways. This technique reduces overall contact with the implant, which is an extra precaution to minimize bacteria. I use a “no touch” method of placing implants, which minimizes the contamination possibility for both implant and pocket during the time of the procedure.
The no touch method reduces inflammation by minimizing the small amounts of naturally occurring bacteria in the breast ducts from gaining access to fluid around the implant. If this bacteria gains access to the implant, the bacteria can transform into a biofilm, which results in a more inflamed scar and slower healing process. I also remove powder from gloves, which has been indicative of causing capsular contraction (inflammation). Not allowing the implant to come in actual contact with the skin lessens the chances of bacteria entering into the pocket. I do this by using a saran wrap type dressing over the prepped area of incision around skin as it is placed.
With this technique, there is less blunt tearing of tissues which allows for a quicker healing process. A sharp electric device is used to divide space needed to accommodate the implant. Using this reduces bleeding and swelling, making the recovery less painful. I use a forceps electrocautery device that allows for grasping and coagulation of small blood vessels prior to dividing them, which stops blood from entering the space where the implant will be placed.
What are the benefits?
This technique minimizes postoperative pain, swelling, and bruising. Quick recovery breast augmentations reduce and minimize tissue trauma. Most patients can return to normal daily activities within 24 hours, and some of my patients are even out to dinner the same evening of the surgery.
