Paul E Banwell FRCS(Plast)
is a fully-accredited plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon. He holds an NHS Consultant position in Plastic Surgery at the world-famous Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead and he is on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery. Mr Banwell is a full member of BAPRAS, BAAPS and ISAPS.
Paul runs a modern cosmetic surgery practice offering a comprehensive, high-quality service and a full range of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
Providing fully-accredited cosmetic surgery services in the South-East and along the South Coast, Mr Banwell performs all types of cosmetic surgery but specialises in body contouring, cosmetic breast surgery, facial rejuvenation, advanced skin care and anti-ageing techniques.
He also treats many patients with skin cancer, moles and disfiguring scars as well as providing a mole check service.
Paul E Banwell was educated in Tunbridge Wells, UK, before commencing his medical studies at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, London. During this time he also gained an honours degree (BSc) in the History of Medicine based at the Wellcome Institute. He graduated in 1992 (MB BS) in medicine and surgery, and continued his surgical training in London to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1996.
He trained in Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery in London (St. Georges & Roehampton), Oxford, Salisbury and Stoke Mandeville, and has passed the Plastic Surgery Specialist Fellowship - FRCS (Plast) - of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Paul also held a Senior Fellowship position at the famous Royal Marsden Hospital in London specialising in reconstruction following cancer of the skin and soft tissues, the breast and the head and neck region. Internationally, he gained further exposure in Australia as a British Association of Plastic Surgeons’ Travelling Fellow (in skin cancer, reconstructive microsurgery & cosmetic surgery).
Paul has developed an international reputation in the field of wound healing and scarring and lectures worldwide. He has an extensive research portfolio and has published two books and over 50 papers, book chapters and monographs. He is a Visiting Professor of Plastic Surgery to Harvard Medical School and has won multiple teaching accolades within Oxford University.
During his time in the UK and abroad (North America, Europe and Australia), he has had extensive exposure and training in aesthetic surgical practice including a formative period at the prestigious McIndoe Surgical Centre in East Grinstead.
His interests include all aspects of aesthetic facial, breast and body contouring surgery. He also has a specialist interest in skin cancer, breast reconstruction and the management of scarring.
Paul is a full member of the British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
In his leisure time, Paul collects Japanese swords and tsubas, and enjoys garden design, sports, sculpture and modern art.
