Essentially breast implants should last for > 10 years. Typically many women who consider further surgery after 10-12 years are for other reasons, such as breast droop, bigger or smaller implants, capsular contracture. The Implant that ruptures through for example blunt trauma will need to be replaced.

With improved production technology and new materials enable a new generation of implants left in place almost indefinitely. In particular, it has the effect of Multi-tight silicon skin and the use of so-called cohesive silicone gel to prevent the penetration of silicone in the body. So far, it was so, it was necessary for about 10 years old implants replaced because of the material. So we can say that this is a huge step forward.

Hello,

When you chose to undergo a surgery like breast augmentation, it is very important to have all the facts explained to you, so you can make an informed idea of the entire process, right from when you get in the chosen clinic for the first time until you leave the clinic after the surgery is done.

It is very important to chose a clinic which works with good materials, liable, and that includes, of course, the type of implants. Nowadays, it isn`t recommendable to work with implants that only have a warranty for a short period of time. Brands like Allergan Natrelle and Mentor, give you a lifetime warranty and this gives you a piece of mind. They wouldn`t guarantee for a bad product.

In our clinic we only work with these two brands and we didn`t have any problems with them.

Best wishes,

Implants have to be changed only in case of rupture, significant capsule contracture or infection. Implants are changed if a client opts for a different Size. Not all surgeons routinely change implants after fixed number of years.

All breast implants are man-made synthetic devices and are at risk of eventual failure. Current commercially available breast implants are made of a durable exterior shell of high grade medical silicone rubber. While rupture of the external shell is possible, it has been difficult to fully quantify this event. Manufacturers have improved the durability of devices, however widespread use of this new generation of implants has been only in the last decade. This has only provided a relatively short duration to evaluate longevity of the implant. Furthermore, longevity studies are complicated by the dynamic nature of implant patients where studies show that woman will elect to exchange implants for many reason with a frequency of 15% in the first 5 years. Presently, the latest generation of breast implants are thought to be durable with the potential to last for extended durations but should not be considered lifetime devices.

There is no deadline on implants, but today we suggest that every 10 years or so they shoud be changed even if there is no problem..
CURRENT OPINION IS THAT WITH TIME THE IMPLANT S ENVELOPE KEEPS THINNING DOWN AND IN SO DOING INCREASES THE CHANCE -ROSK OF RUPTURE.
I have removed implant inserted 25 years before perfectly normal ,but I prefer to follow the above suggestion. Also in case of doubt about the integrity of your implants an MRI scan should be taken.

The patient should be aware that breast implants are not guaranteed to last a lifetime and future surgery may be required to replace one or both implants
