Why don't dermatologists protect surrounding skin?

Why don't dermatologists protect skin surrounding lesions from liquid nitrogen overspray? I had cryosurgery yesterday on a small lesion, and now I have an enormous blister on the "downwind" side of the lesion. I believe if I had a moleskin or similar "doughnut" around the lesion when the liquid nitrogen was applied, I would have a smaller blister and less pain. Dermatologist played down the possibility of such an effect.
