The difference for you is a little incision on your collumnela (the skin bridge between your nasal nostril).

For the surgeon it means that he can see in a better way the cartilage anatomy of your nose.

I have been trained on close Rhinoplasty, however now i have almost 4 years doing the 90% of my cases by open aproach.

In my hands, I it is a better approach than the closed approach. I can achieve better results with open Rhinoplasty,
However, I would not recommend you to search by a surgeon that do one or another approach. Find a good surgeon, with good results. And trust him whatever approach he do.

My advice, as always, would be: don't waste time being preoccupied with the surgical/technical problems of any procedure or specific details of the operation - besides "general" knowledge, it is of no practical use to you. Simply go find the surgeon who will explain it to you in four eyes in a best possible way.

Good luck!

The main difference between Open and Closed Rhinoplasty is that a small incision is made on the underside of the nose-the Collumnella. This incision is usually well hidden and only seen if you lift your head back so someone can see the underside of your nose.

In Rhinoplasty surgery the shape of the nose must be changed. So the skin of the nose is separated from its bone structure, and there are two ways of separating. The method of open surgery involves finding a cleft between the two nostrils and separating the skin from the skeleton. Open surgery provides a better view of the surgeon as well as the possibility of complex changes within the nose. Closed surgery is recommended by surgeons if minor changes are made to the nose.
