I had closed septorinoplasty in May 2019. Since then I have constant swelling that fluctuates over the day - but that never (never!!) stops. This had never happened to me before the operation but my doctor says it never happened to him as well and he doesn't know what it could be.
I have already consulted other doctors, allergists and dermatologists and none can tell me what this might be. The nose simply swells for no reason. I already did a tracking with doctors to see if it would be spicy food, heat, sun exposure, exercise, poorly ventilated spaces, ... but we ended up not being able to conclude what it is because sometimes the nose swells suddenly and for no apparent reason.
In addition to being aesthetically very disturbing and affecting me a lot, this swelling is accompanied by a nasal obstruction - which is not justified again, as other doctors I have been saying that the operation is well done and that I have a lot of space to breathe.
I attached 3 photos - 2 of them I'm really swollen, the other one was in a good day. So far I've been tested for autoimmune diseases, but the results were negative.
I also have dust mite alergies but I always had and never swollen like this, and the doctors I visited say it doesnt justify the huge and fluctuant swelling throughout the day. Could it be a permanent infection?? Please help I dont know what else to do
Hi Kath, you can get a blood test like CBC and ESR to rule out the infection. You can have a course of broad spectrum antibiotics if there comes out to be an infection. I would also suggest in addition an anti-allergic tablet to be taken at night regularly for 3-4 weeks, may be more to help combat the swelling.
Hi Kath, you had a conventional rhinoplasty and sometimes swelling is prolonged and fluctuates. It can go on for months / years. We do a No Swelling Rhinoplasty in which there is minor or no swelling soon after your operation and final results are seen in a few days only. However, in your case, I would suggest anti-inflammatory enzyme preparations for at least 3-4 months or may be more, and topical steroids to be used inside your nose like clobevate cream. This cream you should also use for about 2-3 months. I have used this treatment over years on several of our patients, who had the same problem like yours and they have recovered and got rid of the swelling. You can consult your local doctor for the prescription regarding topical steroid cream. All the best !
