Bunion surgery (hallux valgus)

Worth it 100% Worth it Based on 18 patient ratings

Hallux valgus is an outward deviation of a big toe, which in most cases is caused by deformity of the so-called transverse flat feet: The first metatarsal deviates and the foot widens. It is not just an aesthetic defect, patients experience pain of the pads beneath the toes, some areas of the foot are very sensitive and the foot does not fit into narrow shoes. If the deformity is not corrected in time, the joint can wear out (arthritis).

There are many different operating methods to choose from, which will preserve the joint. During the surgery, the first metatarsal is split and using a wire or small screw and inserts, the bone is placed back into its correct position, which straightens the big toe and the foot narrows.

Hallux valgus surgery can be carried out under general anaesthesia or even local anaesthesia of the foot. Patient can walk immediately after surgery; however, it is necessary to wear special shoes for about four weeks in order to relieve the operated area.
