Cosmelan is a face-peeling mask commonly used in treating melasma and in removing unwanted facial pigmentation.
Cosmelan peels are intended to inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase, which is critical in the process of forming melanin.
Cosmelan's manufacturer recommends two in-office treatments, the first a full-face mask and the second a "touch up" to address areas with remaining unwanted pigmentation, taking place approximately 1 month after the first mask. The manufacturer also offers a Cosmelan 2 follow-up product that is meant for home use.
