Looking for fuller, more sensual lips? Lip augmentation consists of injecting your lips with fat for a smoother, plumper look. Lip augmentation Prague may be the place for this simple, affordable procedure.

What is lip augmentation?

A lip augmentation that uses fat consists of having fat taken from elsewhere on the patient's body and then injected into the lips. Usually, it is women who undergo this surgery, however on occasion men do as well. A lip augmentation can be performed together with other cosmetic procedures such as a face lift, neck lift or breast lift using a collagen or fat transfer.

Why lip augmentation Prague?

Prague has many attractive features for those considering lip augmentation abroad. Its location in Central Europe is easy to access; its mild climate is conducive to healing and its experienced clinics and lip augmentation surgeons ensure you'll receive the best possible care. Lip augmentation Prague costs are often much more affordable than in the UK or with the NHS. The fat application

The transplantation of fat (autologous fat graft or micro-fat injection) means a small amount of fat is sucked from your abdomen, thighs, buttocks or other parts of the body and, under sterile conditions, injected into the lip.

Are you a good candidate for lip augmentation?

Having collagen or fat injections into your lips may enhance your appearance and self-confidence, however, it is not going to change your look entirely. It might make your lips look plumper and more sensual. It is necessary to distinguish whether it is the size or the colour of your lips that you are not satisfied with. If it’s the colour you don’t like, your surgeon may recommend another procedure to you, such as a lip tattoo. An injectable fat or collagen application is suitable for patients with realistic expectations about what the procedure can do for them. See before and after photos of lip augmentation abroad here.

Before lip augmentation

During the first consultation the surgeon will check the state of your lips and oral mucosa. He/she is going to talk with you about your expectations for the lip augmentation, ask you about your anamnesis, if you have any allergies to drugs and will check you are generally in good health to avoid any potential problems. If you suffer from any active lip or oral cavity infection (herpes, aphtae or a cold) or if you have any unhealed lip injury, the surgeon will probably recommend postponing the operation.

Anesthesia

The anesthetic agent lidocaine is a mixture of collagen and no additional anesthetic is necessary. Nevertheless, if you are extremely sensitive to pain your surgeon may use a desensitizing cream or a combination of local anesthesia and sedatives. Local anesthetics desensitize the parts of the body where the fat will be taken from and where it is inserted. The anesthesia may be combined with sedatives. If you decide to have sedatives, please make sure you have arranged for transportation home.

The lip augmentation process

The whole process lasts from 15 minutes to 1 hour.

Collagen

In the past collagen was used. Today surgeons use skin implants - hyaluron acid or fat injections - in lip augmentation, because the results last longer.  Collagen used to be injected through the corner of the mouth into the desired place. More mixture had to be applied since the substance contained a saline solution which the body absorbed within a few days.

Fat

Having cleansed the places where the fat is going to be removed from, as well as where it will be injected to, the surgeon will apply a local anesthesia. Subsequently, the fat is removed using a thick needle or a cannula (the same instrument used in liposuction) and is sucked out with a suction device.  After that, the fat is adjusted and injected into the lip. Same as with collagen, it is necessary to apply more fat due to its absorbability. Repeated application of fat may cause swelling or itching.

After lip augmentation

In the place where the fat was removed, bruises or swelling may appear. You also may have a pulsing sensation in the lip where the fat was applied and the lip might be swollen. You should avoid the sun until the swelling and bruises disappear – usually within 48 hours.

How long will the effects of a lip augmentation last?

The effect of fat injections is individual but, in general, the effect lasts longer then with collagen injections.
