Sculptra adds volume to faces that have lost some of their natural, attractive fat to age or diseases like HIV. It is used to volumize upper cheeks, temple areas, and deep wrinkles and folds, however it is not recommended for use under the eyes (tear troughs) or on the lips.
Sculptra is a bio-stimulatory filler, which means it works by stimulating the formation of your own collagen. Treatment typically requires three sessions, each four to six weeks apart, with the injection of two vials during each session. Collagen begins forming about two weeks after injection.
To avoid complications, Sculptra should only be injected by a doctor certified by its manufacturer, Sanofi-Aventis. Reported side effects include lumps, bumps, granulomas, bruising, and other irritations at the injection point.
