Treatment of excessive sweating of the feet

Excessive secretion of sweat on the soles is in medicine referred to as hyperhidrosis pedis.

Sweaty feet are not only unpleasant but they can also cause health problems. Horny layer of skin is constantly wetting and thus creates an ideal environment for growth of bacteria and fungi on the feet and nails.

According to medical definition, people with hyperfunction of the sweat glands on the feet are people whose foot excludes more than 50 mg of fluids per minute.

As part of the treatment, a sweat test is performed first, which locates the area with increased secretion of sweat. Subsequently during anaesthesia, injection of botulinum toxin is injected into the skin of the foot, which blocks the activity of the sweat glands. They will no longer produce sweat and the foot remains almost completely dry. To maintain lasting effect, it is always necessary to apply another injection in an interval of three to six months.

Injection of botulinum toxin is also a solution to excessive sweating of the armpits and palms.
